“In light of Bill 13… who or what in our culture has to be done away with?”On Tuesday night, at the Public Hearings of the Standing Committee on Bill 13, FCP Communications Director Eric Ames presented an eloquent, challenging presentation to the standing committee. Also representing FCP was Jane Djivre, Vice President of FCP Northern Development, and next week a presentation will be made on behalf of FCP East by Emmanuel Houle. The focus of Eric’s speech was the value of diversity, and respecting diversity. He then identified a very important responsibility: “But along with the virtues of diversity comes an enormous responsibility; a skill, that I believe has been lost in... |
Canadian March for Life smashes previous attendance records: 19,500 |
| Fri, May 11, 2012 - 09:26:30 AM - By Patrick Craine, Lifesite News |
OTTAWA, Ontario, May 10, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Under the constant threat of rain that failed to materialize, an exuberant and record-breaking crowd of nearly 20,000 pro-life activists gathered on Parliament Hill today in Ottawa. The annual event marks the passage of Trudeau’s infamous “Omnibus Bill” in 1969, which struck down Canada’s ban on abortion and paved the way for abortion-on-demand. As he does every year, Jim Hughes, national president of Campaign Life Coalition, stood on the side of the road counting individual marchers as they walked by. Hughes told LifeSiteNews that he began doing the head count years ago because he was concerned about distorted estimates from both sides of the issue. Today he counted a record-breaking 19,500... |
A Night of Celebration and Expectation in Sudbury |
| Thu, May 3, 2012 - 08:42:16 AM - By Eric Ames |
In a room full of local supporters and members- young and young-at-heart- FCP offered sincere thanks for the good work of the past, and shared hopeful expectation of the work of the future. After years of faithful service, Carita Murphy-Marketos formally stood down from her position as the local face of FCP in Sudbury. Sharing her thoughts with the audience, she gave encouragement and well-wishes to the new development team, headed by Jane Djivre, and received a gift of thanks on behalf of the local Sudbury riding association and the FCP Leader’s office. We again wish to thank Carita for her dedication in representing FCP in her riding, and are thankful that although she is stepping aside, she will not... |
Election Averted, So... |
| Wed, Apr 25, 2012 - 04:14:05 PM |
| This is good news. No matter the political posturing over budget concessions, the elephant sprawled out on each and every backroom negotiation table was that the people of Ontario were not interested in going back to the polls, and no party wanted to don the asbestos suits needed to withstand the fire of public outrage had the trigger been pulled. To be sure, this budget acknowledges the need for better public spending and appears to spread the pain around, but it offers very little in terms of long term solutions. It is, at best, a list of stop-gap measures that will help, but will not resolve our financial situation in any comprehensive way. So now the legislature gets back to business – and back to the controversial Bill 13. FCP wants to see amendments made to Bill 13 because the people who call us about the issue want to protect all students from bullying, and also want... |
Budget About Seats, Not Spending |
| Tue, Apr 17, 2012 - 10:48:17 AM - By Eric Ames |
| The budget debate has been buzzing on the airwaves lately, and now we know the budget vote is set for April 24th. The NDP have made some counter-proposals to make the budget more palatable for their members, including an additional tax for high-income earners, but MPPs are still preparing for any contingency. The NDP reported that respondents to their website survey are saying they’re ready for another election. This is not likely to happen, for three reasons. First, most parties are financially tapped (the PCs alone still owe $6.2 million from October) and another expensive campaign would put all parties further in the hole. Second, with so much public attention to the deficit and flagging economy, running up more costs on another election- which would not likely provide anything more concrete in terms of legislative seat distribution- would only fuel more public anger... |
