Liberals To Hide Quality of Health Care from Public
Hamilton On - April 5, 2011 The Liberals’ Budget (Bill 173), released last week, includes an amendment to our freedom of information laws, which will hide "quality of healthcare information" from the public.

Schedule 15 of the budget bill, is an amendment to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act which hides hospital quality info from the public, as a gift to the malpractice insurance industry.

Schedule 18(1) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act presently reads:
Bill 173 (Budget Bill) Schedule 15 recommends the following amendment In December, a law was passed which made hospitals subject to the Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act (FIPPA). As a result, the public will be able to request information about hospital quality of care as of January 1, 2012 and dating back to 2007.

Schedule 15

1. Subsection 18 (1) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act is amended by adding the following clause:
(j) information provided to, or records prepared by, a hospital committee for the purpose of

Information with respect to closed meetings
18.1 (1) A head may refuse to disclose a record that reveals the substance of deliberations of a meeting
of the governing body or a committee of the governing body of an educational institution if a statute authorizes holding the meeting in the absence of the public and the subject-matter of the meeting, The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act can be found at:

Ontario public won access to information and the Liberals are taking it away. This harms voters & promotes a culture of cover-up rather than reform.

Phil Lees, Leader of the Family Coalition Party, says, “It is not surprising that the Liberals are working to hide the evidence from the voters. The public has a right to know; transparency is an important part of improving the healthcare system.” The Liberals are rushing this bill through. It goes to second reading April 6, 2012 and them to committee. Call your MPP to express concern.
