Abortion:
In
the case of rape or incest, adding
a second trauma (the
abortion) to the first (rape or incest) does not help
the mother, but adds another reason for physical and
psychological complications, which may include depression and
suicide.
The
mother however, is not required to keep her baby after birth,
but can give her baby up for adoption.
Those
cases where a surgeon intervenes during a pregnancy because of
pathological conditions (such as cancer of the uterus or ectopic
pregnancy), with the intent of saving, when possible, both lives
are not abortions and are ethically allowed surgical
interventions.
Euthanasia:
The
pro-life position does not require the use of extraordinary
means (such as the use of respirators, or machines, or surgical
intervention) when the life of an old or sick person is in its
terminal stages, but does allow the use of drugs to alleviate
the pain or technology to prolong life.
